National Agency Supports the Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup

The partnership between the Italian National Agency for Meteorology and Climatology, “ItaliaMeteo,” and the Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup continues under the agreement signed with Sport&Salute S.p.A. Following the preliminary regattas held in Sardinia last May, the sailing teams are set to return to the water in Naples for the second Preliminary Regatta, scheduled for September 24-27.

Throughout the event, meteorologists from the National Agency will provide technical and scientific support to the organisers, sharing their expertise in meteorological and marine-oceanographic forecasting and monitoring.

During the regatta, the AC40 one-design boats will take center stage. These vessels are capable of speeds exceeding 40 knots and, given their high performance, require constant meteorological monitoring and real-time forecasts, issued at high frequency and across different time scales, supplemented by specific nowcasting activities. These services are essential to supporting decision-making throughout the regattas.

The support system also includes the involvement of professional forecasters on site, who will provide assistance and timely updates to the organizing committee and support the coordination of activities at sea through the continuous monitoring of environmental conditions.

The National Agency will thus bring its technical and scientific expertise to an international sporting event of particular complexity, offering expert support for event management and for the assessment of meteorological and marine-oceanographic conditions.

The National Agency’s collaboration with the organizers of the Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup will continue until the end of the competition, scheduled for 2027, supporting the different phases of the event through meteorological and marine-oceanographic forecasting, monitoring, and assistance.
